Privacy Policy

The City of Tyler Web Site Privacy Policy applies only to the www.cityoftyler.org portal. When you follow a link to another site, even the sites of state agencies and other local governments, and when you provide information to an application operated by another site, this policy will not apply. You should check the privacy policy of each site if you have concerns about how they handle personally identifiable information. This policy applies only to information collected on www.cityoftyler.org itself.

Collection and Use of Information
The City of Tyler does not sell or rent personally identifiable information. Please be aware that when you provide information to any government entity, however, that information may be subject to the Texas Public Information Act and applicable federal legislation. The City of Tyler takes all reasonable measures to maintain the confidentiality of credit cards and other access numbers under its control. For online ticket payments, the City use thawte SSL Web Server Certificates to offer secure communications by encrypting all data to and from the site. At anytime on the ticket payment page you can click on the thawte logo to verify our certificates.  Additionally, the City of Tyler takes similar measures to protect email addresses that you provide through www.cityoftyler.org.

The City of Tyler Web site utilizes server logs and log analysis tools to create summary statistics about the use of the Web site. The summary statistics are used for purposes such as assessing what information is of most interest to users, determining technical design specifications, and identifying system performance or problem areas. These logs collect the Internet Protocol ("IP") address of your computer, and may collect other similar information about your computer network.

For online government transactions conducted on the City of Tyler Web site, you will be asked to enter certain information about yourself and/or the organization with which you are affiliated. The specifics of this information will vary as required by the type of transaction. In each case, the information requested should include the same information that would be requested if you performed the identical transaction in person rather than online. Whenever City of Tyler requests personal information from you, there will be an indication of whether your disclosure of such information is mandatory or optional. Information collected in the course of the transaction is used for the following purposes:

  • To conduct online transactions with the appropriate department (e.g., the payment of traffic tickets, change of water billing address).

  • To forward city news and information to you, only if you have chosen to request this service.

The City of Tyler uses vendors to provide various services. Your personally identifiable information may be shared with such vendors, so that they can perform their services for the City of Tyler. The City of Tylers contracts with vendors prohibit those vendors from sharing and selling information from or about the users of www.cityoftyler.org.

City of Tyler may be required by law enforcement or judicial authorities to provide personally identifiable information to the appropriate governmental authorities. City of Tyler fully cooperates with law enforcement agencies in identifying those who use our services for illegal activities. We reserve the right to report to law enforcement agencies any activities that we in good faith believe to be unlawful.

Access to Information
With a few exceptions, you or an authorized representative are entitled to request that the City of Tyler disclose personal information that has been collected about you. Pursuant to Sections 552.021 and 552.023 of the Texas Government Code, you are entitled to receive and review that information unless the information is excepted from public disclosure under the Texas Public Information Act (Texas Government Code Chapter 552) or other confidentiality laws protecting some interest other than an individuals privacy. You should note that pursuant to Chapter 552 of the Texas Government Code, a charge may be imposed upon you if you request copies of, or access to, your personally identifiable information.
