Mr. Sanders was born and raised in the West District of Tyler. He has three children and one granddaughter. He has been married to Sally White Sanders for 34 years. He is a 1971 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School and attended Tyler Junior College. Mr. Sanders retired from Kelly Springfield Tire Company after 33 years of service. He is a member of Smith Temple Church of God in Christ.

Achievements
- Led a successful protest against the name change of the St. Louis School
- Initiated an annual summit meeting between the three communities of Butler College, White City and St. Louis to discuss improvements and concerns
